Final Care Terms
Jewellery Care & Aftercare
Your jewellery has been handmade with care and, where applicable, contains precious and sentimental inclusions. With a little extra care, you can help keep your piece looking beautiful for years to come.
Resin is durable, but it is not indestructible. Please follow the care instructions below to help prevent scratches, discolouration, tarnishing and other damage.
Water & Moisture
Resin is water resistant, not waterproof. Please remove your jewellery before:
Showering or bathing, Swimming, Washing up, Exercising or activities involving excessive sweating, or Spending prolonged periods in water
Avoid leaving your jewellery submerged in water. Chlorinated and salt water can be particularly harsh on resin and metal components.
We also recommend storing your jewellery somewhere cool and dry, rather than in a humid environment such as a bathroom.
Sunlight & UV Exposure
Keep your resin jewellery away from prolonged direct sunlight and other strong sources of UV light.
Over time, UV exposure can cause resin to yellow, fade, soften or become more brittle. This can also affect natural inclusions such as flowers and other materials.
When you're not wearing your jewellery, store it somewhere cool, dry and away from direct sunlight.
Please also remove resin jewellery before using UV/LED nail lamps.
Heat
Avoid exposing resin jewellery to excessive heat or sudden temperature changes.
Please don't leave your jewellery:
In a hot car, On a radiator or other heat source, In a sauna or hot tub, In prolonged, or intense sunlight.
High temperatures can soften or distort resin and may affect the bond between the resin and metal.
Perfume, Cosmetics & Chemicals
Chemicals are one of the biggest things to avoid with resin jewellery.
Perfume, hairspray, lotions, makeup, sunscreen, hand sanitiser, nail polish remover, cleaning products and other solvents can dull, soften, discolour or damage the resin surface.
As a general rule:
Jewellery on last, jewellery off first.
Apply perfume, hairspray, lotions and other products before putting your jewellery on, and allow them to dry.
Remove your jewellery before cleaning, washing dishes, gardening or using household chemicals.
Sleeping, Exercise & Everyday Activities
Although your jewellery is designed to be worn and enjoyed, removing it during activities that could cause impact or excessive movement will help protect it.
We recommend removing your jewellery before:
Sleeping, Exercising, Gardening, Housework, Manual work, or Activities where it may be knocked or scratched
Sharp objects and hard surfaces can scratch or chip resin, so please handle your piece with care.
Smoke
Regular exposure to cigarette or other smoke can cause resin to yellow or discolour over time.
For this reason, we recommend keeping your jewellery away from prolonged exposure to smoke.
Cleaning Your Jewellery
For everyday cleaning, gently wipe your jewellery with a soft, clean, lint-free or microfibre cloth.
For resin, avoid abrasive cloths, polishing compounds and harsh cleaning products, as these can scratch or dull the surface.
If your piece needs more thorough cleaning, use a small amount of mild soap and lukewarm water on a soft cloth, rather than soaking the jewellery. Dry it thoroughly afterwards.
Please take extra care with earrings
If cleaning the metal parts of your earrings, use a cotton bud carefully and do not allow cleaning products, hydrogen peroxide or other solutions to come into contact with the resin.
Precious Metal Care
We use 925 sterling silver and 9ct gold where specified.
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time. 9ct gold contains 375 parts gold per 1,000, with the remaining metal being alloys such as copper and silver. These metals can also react with the environment and cause the jewellery to change colour over time.
How quickly metal tarnishes can vary depending on humidity, air quality, storage conditions and individual body chemistry.
A suitable jewellery polishing cloth can be used on the metal components, taking care not to polish or scratch the resin.
If having your jewellery professionally polished, please tell the jeweller that your piece contains resin and ensure the resin is fully protected during the process.
Storing Your Jewellery
When you're not wearing your jewellery, we recommend storing it:
In a jewellery box or a soft pouch, Somewhere cool and dry, Away from direct sunlight, Separately from other jewellery, Away from sharp or abrasive objects, and Avoid throwing multiple pieces together in a jewellery box, as metal components and other jewellery can scratch resin.
What If My Jewellery Gets Damaged?
Accidents happen!
If your piece becomes scratched, chipped, cloudy, damaged or otherwise changes appearance, please contact us before attempting to repair it yourself.
Send us a clear photo of the piece and we'll assess the damage and advise you on the options available.
Depending on the damage, we may be able to:
Polish or repair the existing piece, Recoat the resin, Replace or repair the setting, Recycle the original metal into a new piece, or Remake the piece from scratch
Repair or remake costs will depend on the type and extent of the damage, and we'll provide a price based on photographs wherever possible.
If Your Resin Has Become Dull or Scratched
Minor surface dulling or scratches may sometimes be repairable. However, please don't use resin, nail polish, UV top coats, polishing compounds or other products on the piece without contacting us first.
DIY products can make a professional repair more difficult or may permanently affect the original resin.
If your piece has been accidentally exposed to a chemical, heat or water, let us know what happened and send us a photograph. We'll advise you on the best next step.
If Your Resin Has Yellowed
Some resin discolouration can occur naturally over time, particularly with prolonged UV exposure, heat or chemical exposure. Once resin has significantly yellowed, it may not be possible to restore it to its original appearance and the piece may need to be remade. Following the care instructions above will help minimise the likelihood of this happening.
A Note About Your Inclusions
Your jewellery may contain sentimental inclusions that are unique and irreplaceable. For this reason, please contact us before sending your jewellery for repair or attempting any repair yourself. Our Terms & Conditions explain the amount of inclusion material that should be provided when your piece is originally made. We recommend keeping any remaining inclusion material safely stored where possible, as this may allow us to remake a piece should the original become damaged beyond repair.
Finally...
Your jewellery is made to be enjoyed and worn. You don't need to be afraid of wearing it — just give it a little extra care. Keep it dry. Keep it away from chemicals and excessive heat. Protect it from scratches and prolonged sunlight. Store it safely when you're not wearing it. And if something does go wrong, don't panic — get in touch with us first. We'll always do our best to help.
